This Side Up! *hearts* Regina Spektor

Yup, it's true. She writes quirky, creative, touching songs. Sings stunningly, and plays up a storm on the piano. Added bonus, she's warm and absolutely charming on stage. I was lucky to catch her at Middlebury college fall 2007, and was pleasantly surprised. I thought she might be a major diva (and I have no idea why I thought this...) but in fact she was nothing of the sort. It was like talking to a stranger, and then becoming friends by the end of the night. You can catch her, this summer. Check out her tour page here, your heart will thank you.

You Want Fries With That?

With wings like that, why use your legs? That what I'd like to ask these Azhdarchids, if you know, I lived 65 to 100 million years ago. But chances are they would eat me. With a 33 foot wing span, they hunted on foot, like modern day storks. But I bet modern day storks, wish they were that big. Check out the full article here.

Summer Lovin'

Today I spent the whole day outside. I sipped jasmine green tea, watered the flowers, sunned myself, and chased the pups. It was the best day anyone could ask for. Also it's a sad day, first as you all know it's memorial day, so there are a lot of families missing their loved one's. What you might also not know is Bruce "Utah" Phillips passed away of heart failure on the 24th. Folk singer, storyteller, and Korean war veteran. Utah was an inspiration to me, I love the warmth of his voice, and you can practically hear that twinkle in his eye, when he tells his stories. He will be sorely missed. This blog entry is for him.

Mainstream pop...

Do you normally shun mainstream pop, as it all sounds the same? Are you weary when people tell you that something that's gone mainstream and get excessive airplay, is really good? Well if you said yes to any of those questions, you would be me. I don't get cable, I don't listen to the radio, and I've only had the Internet for a year. So things trickle down to me, abet very slowly.

Imagine my surprise then on hearing Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab' and thought to myself "Self, this is a very good, and very unique mainstream track।" So despite all the drama, and all the bad press, I'm gonna hop on the mainstream bandwagon, and say Mrs. Winehouse is one talented lady.

This Side Up

Freaky science, folk music, funky bean brews, and fantastic pop culture commentary. (OK that last one is a total exaggeration) You can also find us in the mac community, if you're that cool.
